Green Eyed Monster - competition

My dear friend Joe sent me a link today for a small design competition. The company, Green Eyed Monster makes and sells earth-friendly tote bags.

Green Eyed Monster quote: "Provides the most unique and socially responsible alternative to disposable paper and plastic bags on the block."

So far not many people have submitted any designs, and the ones that have been submitted... are uh.. well, you can see for yourself.

Here are some of the ideas I played around with.

I tried a few different things before coming up with this one, and decided to keep working off of this theme.

Then I moved onto this, and decided I liked this color scheme better, but it was a little too simple, even for me. After playing around with merging the 2 styles I came up with the following...

Which is final version that I submitted for the contest.

So if you get a chance, log on to Green Eyed Monster and vote for me!

cheers

Infested

Ok, maybe the title is a little overly-dramatic, but my bed is now host to bed bugs. =( Yuck yuck yuck yuck yuck. Apparently, not only has my entire apartment building has been experiencing this gross and unpleasant problem, all of San Francisco has had a bed bug outbreak. I have decided, based upon many irritating experiences as of late, that this is the result of too many god damn hippies and hobos in this city. I won't go into to that now because I will not stop ranting for a good 10 pages about why I hate hippies and hobos. Perhaps we'll save that one for a rainy day.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, I woke up yesterday with 5 giant, swollen (not to mention extremely itchy) bites on my left arm.

About a week ago, I started breaking out on my face at work. I thought that perhaps it was just from stress or something, until the red marks started to itch really bad. I was in denial about bed bugs, and just assumed that they were gnat bites (because I have a very similar reaction to them - big, swollen, itchy, red bites) But no, today the Exterminator confirmed it. Bed Bugs. Which means, this thing --->

had been crawling on my face! Gross gross vomit vomit everywhere.

Thank god we have an extra bed in our apartment. All be it a little uncomfortable, I'd rather be a little stiff in the morning than have obtained a million more bug bites.

Anyway, I realize this post has nothing to do with illustration, but I wanted to fill you in on what I've been dealing with the past week - which may also explain why I haven't been doing a whole lot of blogging.

Tonight//1988

Tonight I wandered down the street and discovered that
Gallery 1988 was open (I can never remember the days/hours they keep) so I decided to pop in. I've been meaning to go for several weeks now. I missed the opening to the show that is currently up and I really wanted to go, so I'm glad I finally got to see the work.

Ken Garduno, who I've blogged about before, had several pieces on display. Here are a few highlights:

I also was pleased to see several Yoksay Yamamoto pieces. (I'm sorry I don't have a current link to his website) I have seen some of his work before and it always catches my eye and holds me in place for awhile. I love seeing illustrative work in the 3rd dimension. I wish I had more patience to do it myself.. anywho. Here are some work samples.

As I stepped outside into the misty evening, I noticed this building across the street.

The rain makes it look like it's a crying face. I like buildings with faces.

Later, I peeked inside Upper Playground (they were not open.. again with the random hours thing)

Next door was this wheat paste (apologies for the crappy lighting)

Updates

Hey Guys,
So I have finished both the look book I was working on and the corn book from a few weeks ago and I finally got them printed.

The look book transformed into a style/trend catalogue for H&M, but purely in a hypothetical standpoint. *This project is for my own personal use only and will not be reproduced. Here is what I came up with. Feedback is always greatly appreciated =)
Enjoy

Get The Facts About Corn
*this book is also intended only for promotional/personal usage and will not be reproduced
Enjoy!

Look Book - Update

I apologize for my serious lack of blogging lately. I recently starting working the oh-so glamorous life of retail, so my time and energy for such luxuries as blogging has slowed down quite a bit. However, I have been working on this look book and I wanted to update some of those sketches. The book itself is still in process so I'll keep posting when I get the chance.
