Sorry for my lack of blogging these past couple of days. I have been a bit pre-occupied with life. For starters, my dear friends Lil Ric and
Nate came for a visit. We mostly did a lot of wandering around, and I even got to see some parts of the city I hadn't discovered yet.
The first night that Ric and Nate got here, we all went took the BART to Glen Park to meet up with one of Ryan's co-workers for some delicious Mexican food and Margaretta's. The night ended a little early because we had to catch the BART back home (they stop running around midnight) and none of us wanted to be stranded in Glen Park.
The next day we did a lot of wandering around. It's the most cost effective way to see a new place. The weather was perfect, so first we headed to the Warf for a little sunshine and sea.
followed by an excursion up telegraph hill, then back down again into north beach and Chinatown.
This is for you Joe
a little gem we passed in Chinatown
Their visit ended well. Chinese food, beer, a visit with Ryan's uncle, more beer, a trip to Zeigheist to sit outside and enjoy each other's company and the strongest vodka tonics I've discovered in this city. Followed by more drinks and board games at home till the wee hours of the morning and finally concluding in hitting the alarm after about 2 hours of sleep and heading off to work.
A day later, another of Ryan's Uncle's were in town for a night. This particular uncle really enjoys putting a few back (for lack of a better way to say it) We had a great time eating sushi at our favorite place, and drinking beer and sake. And again we ended up back out or place for more drinks. This time, however I had enough sense to stop after one. Ryan however... well. Let's just say he won't be in the mood for Gin and Tonic for quite some time..
Other than getting blasted with visiting friends and relatives, I have been working hard on illustrating both my dream's and my Mom's story. Also, I put together a portfolio completely last minute and now I am proud to say that I now am referred to as design intern! As of next week I will have no life, as I will be working about 60 - 70 hours a week in order to just barely have enough money left over each month to put something into the savings account. Aaahh, the life of an up and coming artist. Even though I will be working full time for minimum wage, I am excited to have this opportunity and a chance to learn new skills and work with like-minded individuals.
Thus, to make a long story short, I haven't had as much time these past 2 weeks to really work on my illustrations or to post them on this blog. And sadly it seems, that the future holds even less time. So bare with me over the next four months of this internship as it's been awhile since my life at MCAD, and I have gotten a little rusty at working on 20 different projects at once, being active and social/hanging out with friends, eating sporadically, and paying all of the bills on time all on just a few hours of sleep a night. I knew that going through all of that would help me in the long run..
heart,
Karen
