Living History Farms

Recently I had the pleasure of re-visiting a place I frequented as a child, Living History Farms in Urbandale, IA.

"Living History Farms is an interactive outdoor museum which educates, entertains and connects people of all ages to Midwestern rural life experiences."

When I was a kid, I attended the day camp at Living History Farms. It was great to go back and relive some of those memories as an adult. If you've never been, I would highly recommend a visit!

It's about a mile and half walking tour through a 1600's farm, 1700's farm, 1800's farm, 1900's farm and ending in a little town from the late 1800's.

Red Hot Art Fest This Weekend

This weekend I will be joined by many fellow artists in the selling of our wares during the Red Hot Art Fest in Steven's Square in South Minneapolis.

The festivities are 11-7pm Saturday, and 11-5pm Sunday.

Update / Progess

So many things have happened in the past month and 1/2 that I don't even know where to start..! Well, perhaps I should start with my very exciting and life changing news.. I got engaged! Last month Ryan and I took a trip to Maine with our good friends Chris and Jessie. On our 3rd day there, Ryan proposed in front of Moxie Falls - the largest waterfall in Maine. It was wonderful, adorable, memorable and AWESOME. (lots of other adjectives come to mind too like ridiculously romantic, utterly surprising, and soaking wet - from rain and my reaction of immediately bursting into tears...)

Ah yes, Maine was Amainezing. We did so much, I feel like it would take a week of posts just to recount it all. Instead, I will share some photos.

In other news, I've been working on a new painting. So far, I'm really happy with where it is going. Here are some process photos.

St. Paul Art Crawl

Last night a few friends and I headed over into the 'east bay' (i.e. St. Paul) to check out the St. Paul Art Crawl at the Carleton Artist Lofts. It was great to see my usual favorites, Joe and Megan Rheult, Tim Monsters, Buttermilk, Kathryn Smith, and Josh Murray

Then I was pleasantly surprised to meet a new couple in the lofts, Jason, a fine arts painter and Zoe Keller, a lovely illustrator, designer and printmaker.

Their live/work space would make any person with an at-home studio envious. The entire living room of their modest one-bedroom condo is taken over with books, drying racks and an amazing custom built work table.

I couldn't help but pick up this adorable painting by Miss Zoe before we left. Art impulse buys are the best kind of impulse buys!

Afterward, we ended our wonderful art-filled night with some decadent cocktails and a flight of vodka at Moscow on the Hill.

The St. Paul Art Crawl is still going on through out this weekend. I would highly recommend a trip over to the Carleton Artist Lofts!
